We are glad that you like the CDLP online site. 

It is used quite a lot by students all over the world.

You might want to also check out USALearns.org. It has USA in the name but is also free and open to anyone. There are three ESL courses on the site, Begining ESL, Intermediate ESL, and Practice English and Reading. The last one is based on the CDLPonline content but has additional activities. Another advantage is that teachers can create a course and have their students register in it in order to track their progress.

There are 3 sites with USALearns. The address listed above is for Independent Learners - those without teachers or tutors who wish to improve their English skills. If, after looking at the site, you would like your students to do the activities AND be able to track their progress, you will need to go to the Teacher site and setup a class. After you setup a class then the students will register on the Student site.

If you would like instructions on how to access and setup a Teacher account along with student registration instructions, let me know.

VERY IMPORTANT:

If a student registers at the Independent Learner site, they will NOT be able to register in your class if you create one.

HOW DO I SAY ? or HOW CAN I SAY ? *** (Como eu falo isso?)

Como se fala RANGO ou GOROROBA em Inglês?

 As mais comuns são 'chow', 'eats', 'grub', 'chuck'.

 Alguns dicionários dizem que 'chow' é uma gíria que provem de restaurantes chineses e orientais que servem aquela comida ótima (?) mas de aparência e paladar estranho para muitos ocidentais.

Em todo caso, tenho certeza que você já viu na TV o comercial da Dog Chow e da Cat Chow, gororoba spara cachorros e gatos.

'Eats' refere-se geralmente à comida servida em uma festa ou evento social.

'Grub' parece ser a palavra preferida pela maioria.

Já a palavra 'chuck' no sentido de comida, confesso que é a primeira vez que vejo; mas, como me falaram dela achei melhor colocar aqui.
Por fim,  alguns exemplos com cada uma dessas palavras:

• Hey, let's get some grub! [Ei, vamos arrumar uma gororoba pra comer?]
• Grub's up! [A bóia tá pronta!]
• They do really good grub in our local pub. [Servem uma gororoba muito boa no bar local.]
• You'll get the drinks and I'll get the eats. [Você se vira com as bebidas e eu me viro com o rango.]
• Wanna some eats? [Quer um grude?]
• It won’t cost anything, except for booze and eats. [não vai custar nada, a não ser a bebida e a gororoba.]

HOMELY ;  PLAIN JANE ; BAGGER

Nós dizemos que a pessoa é 'sem sal', o que significa que ela não é atraente.

O termo usado em inglês é: 'homely'.

Tem ainda a palavra 'plain'. Para descrever as garotas os americanos criaram ainda a gíria 'plain Jane', uma mulher que não é atraente, mas também não é assim tão feia.

Para se dizer 'baranga' em inglês? Anotem também 'baranga' tem como sinônimo nesse contexto a palavra 'canhão'. Ambas são usadas para descrever uma mulher extremamente horrorosa (feia ao extremo), mal-arrumada, largada e sem muitas chances de alguém ter algo com ela.  Em inglês disse 'bagger'.

A razão é fácil de entender: a pessoa (mulher) é tão feia que alguém só teria algo, apenas se colocasse uma sacola (bag) na cabeça.         Agora quando a garota é muito (mas muito) feia, então eles dizem que ela é uma 'double bagger'.

Ou seja, ela é tão feia que para alguém ter algo com ela seriam necessárias duas sacolas: uma na cabeça dela e a outra na cabeça do corajoso que está com ela; assim, caso uma das sacolas caia ninguém corre o risco de ver o que tem por baixo.

Scientists said that our brain is so complex that we need more than 15 minutes to process and memorize (processor e memorizer) a new word.

Although, there is a little trick that you can do:  (entretando há um truquezinho que  voce pode fazer)  If you listen and the same time you write this new world, you can accelerate your brain 160 times faster.  Good it, don`t you think?

This brain-function is simple to understand; our machine-brain (máquina cerebral) memorizes each letter and makes a photo of (tira uma foto) this new word.

A Yury Shtyrov`s crew (equipe) doctors, makes part of a Medical Center of research(pesquisa) that have been researching cognitive and modern advantage behaviors (comportamentos avançados e modernos) can from our Brains.   They get these tests in 16 volunteers. They did many repetitions-writing new words. These tests will serve to helping people (estes textes servirão pra ajudar pessoas) that had some loss brains (perdas cerebrais) in accident car or cerebral deceases (doenças cerebrais).

The Sport Called Cricket

When people talk about British sports, the first thing that would probably come to mind (vem em mente) would be soccer, or footsie (giria pra  futebol) as enthusiasts like to call it.

However (entretanto), there are other sports that originated in England and one of them is cricket.

This sport has been around for centuries (séculos)and can actually be traced back (vem dos tempos)to the Tudor times in the 16th century.

Who played the first game of cricket? It really is not clear (não é bem preciso)but some historians think that the game of cricket was invented by the children of workers (filhos de trabalhadores) in the farming and metalworking industries. (empresas metalúrgicas).

Another theory is that cricket could have been played by (poderia ter sido praticado por) Prince Edward in the 1300s. The former is actually the more accepted explanation.

Today, cricket is played by countless people ( praticado por inúmeras pessoas) in various countries. It has gone a long way from its humble origins centuries ago. 

Although (entretando)cricket may not have reached the heights (atigindo a mesma altura; popularidade) that football is currently enjoying, it really does have its own huge following (tenha seus próprios seguidores).

How do you play cricket? It is played on a green field          (campo de grama) – much like many other sports. In the middle of the field, there is a flat strip of bare ground (linha demarcando os lados do campo) 20 meters long. It is called the cricket pitch. At each end of the cricket pitch, a wooden device is placed (uma madeira é colocada).

This is called the wicket (espécie de gol; trave de 3 pinos) and it is used as the target (como a trave de gol). 

The cricket ball, weighing (pesando)in at 160 grams and made of hard leather, (couro bem duro) is bowled by a player towards a wicket. The opposing team has a batsman who guards the wicket to avoid (defender a portilhola; no caso o gol)  the ball hitting the target. 

These are the basics of the game which has captured the hearts of many people (atrai o coração de multidões) around the world.

You should try watching a game just to see what it’s like.
